Three-time Grand Slam champion, Stan Wawrinka, became the oldest quarterfinalist in the 55-year history of the BNP Paribas Nordic Open on Thursday. The 39-year-old Swiss player won a nail-biter against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina after being down a break twice in the deciding set.

After a two hours and twelve minutes battle, Wawrinka survived to record a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 victory against the Spaniard. His achievement surpasses Ivo Karlović's record from 2016, when the then 37-year-old rocket server reached the quarterfinals in Stockholm. But don’t mention his age, the Swiss just wants to enjoy his second-round win:

"I have been training hard lately and felt I was getting into the groove already in Shanghai last week. I tried to stay positive the whole time when I was down in the third set today. I really enjoy playing in Stockholm and feel an extra support here," commented Magnus Norman's protégé.

All quarterfinals will be played on Friday on the world-renowned centre court at the Royal Tennis Hall. Besides Wawrinka, so far world number seven Andrey Rublev, and Serbia's Miomir Kecmanović have won their matches today. They will join Casper Ruud, Tommy Paul, Tallon Griekspoor, and Dominic Stricker who advanced to the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
