Norwegian Casper Ruud is through to his first final at the BNP Paribas Nordic Open after an impressive performance against 2019 champion Denis Shapovalov. The Norwegian delivered a strong display and won 6-3, 6-4. In Sunday’s final, Ruud will have the chance to claim his 14th ATP title, and his second of the 2025 season.

Ruud got off to a solid start with a strong service game, holding to love and eventually breaking Shapovalov’s serve to take a 3-1 lead. In the following game, however, the Norwegian faced trouble with three break points against him at 0-40. He saved all three with consecutive points, but eventually on the fourth break point, he hit a backhand into the net, allowing Shapovalov to break back to 3-2. Ruud responded by breaking the Canadian’s serve again, capitalising on his opponent's unforced errors. He continued to play at a high level with aggressive and decisive tennis, giving Shapovalov little to no chances to settle into the set. Ruud earned three set points on his own serve and converted the first to take it 6-3.

In the second set, both players held serve up to 3-3. Shapovalov had a chance to break in the sixth game, but Ruud managed to hold fast. In the seventh game, in a reverse of momentum Ruud broke Shapovalov’s serve instead. The Canadian had game points, but Ruud sealed the break with an impressive forehand at the net. From there, the Norwegian had a firm grip on the match. The players held one more service game each before Ruud closed out the match on his fourth match point. Final score 6-3, 6-4.

In Sunday’s final, scheduled at 3:00 PM, Casper Ruud will face Ugo Humbert, who earlier on Saturday advanced after Holger Rune was forced to retire due to injury. This will be the sixth career meeting between Ruud and Humbert, with the Frenchman Humbert currently leading 3-2 in their head-to-head. Ruud’s wins have come on clay, whilst Humbert has won on faster surfaces. Their most recent encounter was in Monte Carlo 2024, where Ruud emerged victorious. For Ruud, this will be his third attempt at winning an indoor ATP title, having previously reached the finals in Dallas (2025) and at the ATP Finals (2022).

Kirkov / Stevens advance to Doubles Final

Vasil Kirkov (USA) and Bart Stevens (Netherlands) have secured their place in the doubles final at the BNP Paribas Nordic Open after defeating Adam Pavlasek (Czech Republic) and Jan Zielinski (Poland). Kirkov and Stevens took the first set, but Pavlasek and Zielinski fought back to level the match. It was ultimately decided in a match tiebreak, with a final score of 6-4, 3-6, 13-11.
