Sweden's No. 1, Elias Ymer, has been awarded a wildcard for the BNP Paribas Nordic Open, with the main tournament starting in less than two weeks. Last year, Elias advanced to the quarterfinals of his home tournament and recently became a Davis Cup hero when Sweden defeated India at the Royal Tennis Hall.

"I’m really looking forward to playing the BNP Paribas Nordic Open, which is my favorite tournament of the year," commented an excited Elias Ymer.

The 28-year-old Swede has fond memories of the prestigious ATP tournament. In addition to last year's quarterfinal, Elias won the doubles tournament in 2016 after four celebrated performances with his younger brother, Mikael. This year, the Stockholm native qualified for Wimbledon, where he pushed seeded home favorite Jack Draper to five sets on Centre Court.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome Elias Ymer as a wildcard for the BNP Paribas Nordic Open 2024. Elias is a fantastic ambassador for Swedish tennis, and his dedication and talent make him a crowd favorite. We look forward to seeing him compete at home and delivering world-class tennis to the audience," said Rasmus Hult, CEO of the BNP Paribas Nordic Open organizers.

Elias Ymer is the second player to receive a wildcard for this year's main tournament. The first wildcard was awarded to three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka. A third and final wildcard will be awarded next week.

This year’s wildcard players face a tough challenge, as the field is of exceptionally high caliber. Among the registered world stars are top 10 players Casper Ruud and Grigor Dimitrov, the in-form Alexei Popyrin and Brandon Nakashima, as well as crowd favorites Matteo Berrettini and Tommy Paul.

"It’s really exciting to give Elias a wildcard for this year’s strong tournament. Elias delivered an outstanding performance last year, and hopefully, he can perform just as well this year. There’s nothing better than seeing a Swede play in front of a packed Centre Court at the Royal Tennis Hall. Elias always contributes to an electrifying atmosphere," said Thomas Enqvist, Tournament Director of the BNP Paribas Nordic Open.
