The very popular Italian Matteo Berrettini is confirmed to participate in the tennis classic BNP Paribas Nordic Open. The former world No. 6 has made a strong comeback this year, winning three tournaments on the ATP Tour.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Matteo Berrettini to the Royal Tennis Hall in October. Matteo, who has reached the Wimbledon final and was previously a top 10 player in the world, is a fantastic addition to our tournament. The participation of a player of Matteo's caliber highlights the growing status of the tournament, and we look forward to seeing him deliver top-quality tennis for our fans," says Rasmus Hult, CEO of the organizer of BNP Paribas Nordic Open.

In July 2021, Berrettini made tennis history by becoming the first Italian ever to play a Wimbledon singles final. The following year, he also became the first Italian male player to reach at least the quarterfinals in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments. His successes have since inspired other Italian stars like Jasmine Paolini and Jannik Sinner to achieve similar feats.

Berrettini possesses one of the world's best serves, and his heavily top-spun forehand is a feared weapon on the tennis tour. The 28-year-old from Rome has won ten ATP titles in his career, and his enjoyable style of play suits both fast and slow surfaces.

"Matteo is one of the most popular players on the ATP Tour. Wherever he plays, he becomes a crowd favorite, thanks to his great charisma on and off the court, as well as his powerful serve and impressive forehand. Matteo, who was previously an established top 10 player with a Wimbledon final and much more under his belt, has shown this year, after a couple of injury-filled seasons, that he is on his way back to the world elite with his three ATP titles," says Thomas Enqvist, Tournament Director for BNP Paribas Nordic Open.

The lineup for this year's ATP tournament will be finalized in mid-September. World No. 8 Casper Ruud and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka have already announced their participation in the Royal Tennis Hall. The 55th edition of the BNP Paribas Nordic Open will be held from October 12-20.
